News Release time: May 27, 2026
In complex industrial environments, equipment never works in isolation. Power supplies, air lines, control signals, process flows, and other functional relationships connect assets in ways that are often invisible on a standard CMMS/EAM equipment hierarchy. When maintenance teams are unaware of these dependencies, they can encounter serious safety risks: electric shock, sudden release of high-pressure media, or unintended equipment activation during work orders.
The bluebee® Dependency module gives maintenance teams full visibility into these real-world connections so they can prepare the right isolations and work safely every single time.
Core functionality
Every equipment record includes a dedicated Dependency tab that lists all functional relationships beyond the standard hierarchy. At a glance you see:
What supplies this asset (upstream: power, air, signal, process flow)
What this asset supplies (downstream equipment)
Exact equipment codes, descriptions, and dependency types (e.g., electrical power supply, hydraulic supply, pneumatic supply, control signal)
Typical use case
Consider a centrifugal pump (P-101) driven by its electric motor (M-101) in a chemical process line. This motor-pump assembly has multiple critical dependencies:
Electrical power supply: M-101 is fed from Motor Control Center MCC-01
Mechanical drive: M-101 directly drives P-101 via coupling
Process flow: P-101 receives suction from upstream tank T-100 and discharges to downstream reactor R-201
Control signal: PLC sends start/stop and speed commands to the motor starter
When a technician is assigned a work order to perform maintenance on pump P-101, bluebee® automatically displays all upstream dependencies on the mobile device. The technician must first isolate electrical power at MCC-01, lock out the motor starter, and close the suction and discharge isolation valves on the process lines. The system even generates the complete LOTO/isolation checklist with step-by-step instructions and highlights every critical point in red.
Thanks to this visibility, the team arrives on site fully prepared, executes the correct isolations the first time, and avoids any risk of unexpected energy release or process fluid release. The same information is instantly visible from the motor record as well.
Key features
Bulk Excel upload: Fast import with built-in validation (equipment must exist, no self-loops, only valid dependency types allowed).
Auto-generated LOTO / isolation checklist: One click on any work order pulls in all critical upstream dependencies (power, hydraulic, pneumatic, signal) and creates a ready-to-use isolation plan.
Comprehensive reporting: LOTO matrix, visual dependency maps, missing-dependency audits, and full change-log history.
Mobile access: Dependency data travels with the work order; field technicians see everything on their mobile device, with red banners highlighting critical isolation points.
By systematically managing equipment dependencies, bluebee® turns hidden connections into a proactive safety net, reducing risk, shortening preparation time, and helping organizations meet the highest standards of operational and maintenance safety.
Why bluebee® Dependency stands out
While most CMMS/EAM platforms offer basic asset hierarchies, bluebee® provides a dedicated Dependency module focused on functional relationships. It delivers bidirectional links, clear upstream and downstream visibility, and one-click generation of LOTO/isolation checklists. Together with bulk Excel import, visual maps, and strong offline mobile access with critical alerts, it helps turn hidden equipment connections into a practical safety layer. This approach can reduce risk and improve maintenance efficiency, particularly in process-heavy industries.
