Digital Innovation for Sustainability in China: Insights from Bluebee Tech CEO at French Tech Shanghai event

Events Release time: August 19, 2025

On June 26, 2025, Bluebee Technologies joined La French Tech Shanghai's vibrant "Tech for Good, Tech for Impact" event, held in Shanghai with over 300 industry leaders, startups, and officials. CEO Bruno Lhopiteau was invited to share his experience developing a technology company working on high-impact environmental and energy projects. Here are the main takeaways:

Digital Innovation for Sustainability in China: Insights from Bluebee Tech CEO at French Tech Shanghai event

Lessons learnt from utilities and SOEs

The experience accumulated helping State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and infrastructures optimize their assets lifecycle and ensure compliance, during decades of rapid growth and strengthening environmental regulations, has proven to be applicable to manufacturing plants and companies outside of China.

Sustainability goes well beyond CO2

Despite CO2 taking most of the corporate attention, water management is perhaps more crucial for society. Bruno advocates a more holistic approach and highlighted the company's experience with industrial wastewater treatment plants, often serving as high-impact pilots for broader operational improvements.

Resistance to change in multinationals

European multinationals often resist new digital tools, preferring outdated corporate IT systems, bound by their global practices, IT policies and traditional methods like paper and Excel. China can be an excellent playground for these companies to trial new approaches and perhaps later deploy them elsewhere, one of the engines of growth for Bluebee Tech.

Empowering workers for impact

Bruno explained one of the company's driving value, emphasizing the role of workers, technicians, individuals, in sustainability and in ESG. The bluebee® solution, dubbed "for the worker of tomorrow" always focused on enabling people on the factory floor, who do the work, make decisions, report and solve problems. Bruno contrasted this with traditional IT projects that often blame users for failure. Instead, Bluebee Tech put people at the center of its business.

Technology overhype as an obstacle

Asked about the biggest challenges, Bruno took the counterpoint of other tech speakers, explaining how overhyped trends like 3D BIM, IoT, Digital Twins, and AI often lead to disappointing results and may hinder more practical ROI-driven technology initiatives. His contributions, based on a long experience and vivid examples, sparked widespread attention and lively discussions among the participants.

Many thanks to La French Tech Shanghai, sponsors, and volunteers for hosting an impactful event that showcased the Sino-French tech ecosystem and gave Bluebee Tech a platform to share its vision.
